CrossWeave @ The Standard Knitting Mill
Adaptive Reuse
Done in Collaboration w/ Ivanna Adames
CrossWeave at the Standard Knitting Mill aims to increase density and revitalize the surrounding site to be occupied by the roughly 4,000 people it once accomodated during the mill’s operational years.  It intends to promote greater site connectivity and usage through a network of greenways which plays on the existing parks and athletic fields contexts to promote activity and engagement.  The greenway would also propose to cut through the mill, subdividing the building into smaller programmed components while activating the ground floor and welcoming new circulation flows throughout the site.
Inspired by Knoxville’s need for a new public library to accomodate the growing population, this scheme proposes to serve as the location for the new library in addition to a mixed-use, multi-generational program which includes a senior center, child daycare, and mixed-demograpgic dwelling units.  Finally, the district  masterplan would generate oppurtunities for housing as well as mixed-use program to coexist and promote a sense of community within this new district.
Note: Walls highlighted in white are the only new walls // other walls are existing and to remain - some being existing exterior walls, existing parti walls, or existing parti walls that once were exterior. Embracing these conditions were key to the project
